A public body with offices located within a listed historic building, contacted Llumarlite to reduce maintenance costs and save energy on the lighting located in their stairwells.
Our initial fact finding visit to the site found different sizes of luminaires, some using T8 fluorescent lamps and some with early generation basic LED illumination. The stairs also act as escape routes for the building and therefore the majority required integrated 3 hour maintained emergency lighting. Constraints included use of existing fixing points, existing wiring, no disturbance to the existing Décor, and to maintain the visual appearance of the luminaires external housing.
Lllumarlite’s own electrical installation team used their years of experience to complete the project on time. Working at weekends to check existing wiring, clean and refurbish the inside of each luminaire. New internal diffusers, bespoke LED Geartray unit with integral dimmable control gear, and control equipment replaced the old items. All old equipment was removed from site by our team, and at our works were stripped and each type of component or material were ethically recycled (in line with our policy).
Our design for the new internal equipment added enhanced internal reflectors and diffusers to improve on the dark areas evident in the old fluorescent luminaires, and to avoid LED spots that were evident on the existing early generation LED versions. Part of the process included checking like for like or better illumination, and commissioning the controls to maximise savings and meet the clients preferences
On top of direct energy savings, we worked further with the client to minimise their power consumption by the addition of standalone detectors which could be adjusted to reduce output if sufficient daylight.
During the process Llumarlite found some degraded wiring which was quickly corrected working with the client and site FM team
The project was completed on budget and on time, and the clients brief along with energy saving targets were met whilst improving both the performance and visual appearance of the luminaires and installation.
